It's also about the freedom to be un-healthy.
![]() The problem is when individuals don't have to be responsible (and pay) for their actions / poor choices. Naturally the nanny state and health care programs that subsidise bad decisions increase their occurrences. As a result - the fit healthy 25 year old is forced to pay (via taxation) for the life long chain smoker to get expensive transplants for new organs. Incentives need to be present for individuals to alter their behavior - when there is no economic cost, there is less of a reason to change. When someone else is footing the bill, why quit right? |
